Well, it’s a revolution to me, at least and I think I’m pretty well versed at applique techniques at the point.
I just watched a youtube video that shows how you can use freezer paper without starch and without glue in an ingenious way. I have never even heard of this and CAN’T BELIEVE I DIDN’T THINK OF IT MYSELF. (not that I’m brilliant but i can add 2 plus 2).
You use the WAX of the freezer paper ITSELF as the adhesive! And you don’t have a gluey mess to deal with at the end to remove the freezer paper because they isn’t any glue touching the freezer paper!! Really – you must watch this video.
Holy Batman I got myself some applique to do!

Don’t you love you-tube, I use it all the time. Long ago on PBS was a show and the Author was Georgie Bonesteel, she used it all the time, she why I quilt today. I teach new quilters to use it for pattern pieces, so they don’t have to buy rulers and cutter to soon.
Good Luck,
I haven’t done much applique but when I do I will definitely try this method. Thanks Allison!
Wow, that is a great idea. I am wanting to do my first applique quilt (Frolic by Verna Mosquera) but I’ve been a little afraid to start as I was afraid of needle turn. But this looks easy and like I could actually do it! Thanks so much for finding this, I think you just made my life way easier!
I bookmarked this you tube. Will try it soon. Looks like its something I could actually do!!!
I’ve done this method with circles. It is good, but I need more finesse with my ironing…
I did have a couple of freezer paper circles sticking to the iron. Nothing terminal though.
I tried that before. I will say it is extremely difficult if you don’t have a mini iron. In the method I tried, you remove the freezer paper before you applique it onto the fabric.

I think I have abandoned this method. I like my spray starch method – it just works better for me!
How are you??? I haven’t recorded in a million because let’s just say that life is a little hectic right now.. As you can imagine having just moved yourself…
Allison.
